Things are moving now on the new North Valley Landfill. Issa Hamoud, director of the Logan Environmental Department which operates the countywide garbage collection program, gave the Cache County Council an update on Tuesday.
Hamoud said there's been a lot of dialogue, many documents have been completed and he hopes a draft permit will be issued by the end of this month.
"The way the process works is that after the draft permit they will public notice them that we have applied for the permit," Hamoud explained. "They would also provide a public comment period where citizens of Cache Valley, or anyone in the state of Utah or Idaho, or any citizen of the United States with reason can comment."
Hamoud said the next steps after that include application for a conditional use permit, research on public right-of-way, road design, facility design and the construction. He said hopefully the new landfill will be operational by the year 2014-15. Plans are to build a transfer station where the existing landfill is located in Logan.
