LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- A Utah Highway Patrol officer says he mistakenly thought the child safety lock of his patrol car was activated before a handcuffed man pushed the door open and escaped in Logan.
Authorities are still looking for 23-year-old Osvaldo "Ozzie" Miranda, who was last seen in the area of 200 North and 1000 West in Logan about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials had arrested Miranda as part of an investigation by the Cache-Rich Drug Task Force. But UHP Sgt. Jason Kendrick says Miranda somehow unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the door of Kendrick's patrol car en route to jail.
Law enforcement officials say they launched an exhaustive, three-hour search, but were unable to find him.
Police say Miranda is affiliated with a gang and is known to travel the Wasatch Front.
